Want to be the next Dammit author? Submit your story to our upcoming book, Dammit, I Love You.
Deadline: Submit your story through Saturday, November 30, 2014
What we're looking for:
Brandt Street Press seeks stories that reveal a lesson you learned from love. The story must be true and not published somewhere else. It should amaze and inspire. And, more than anything else, it should be entertaining.
Your story can be about romantic love, of course. But it doesn’t have to be. It could be about any kind of love—a family member, a friend, even a celebrity or someone else you loved from afar. The key is that you learned something about yourself from this love. It could be something happy, it could be something dark—regardless, it should be something that changed you at your very core.
Stories should be roughly 6-16 pages in length, double-spaced (that’s about 1,500-4,000 words). We accept simultaneous submissions (i.e., you can submit elsewhere at the same time), as long as you let us know right away if your story was accepted by someone else. Unfortunately, we can’t accept any stories via email or through the regular mail.
It always helps to read one of our other books to get an idea of what we’re looking for. So, for a limited time, you can order an ebook of Dammit, I Learned a Lot from That Son-of-a-Gun for the discounted price of $3.99 (regularly $8.99). What you get:
Brandt Street Press will pay you a small advance and royalties at or above industry standard. Plus we’ll be actively involved in promoting the book, getting it in the hands of as many readers as we can. Dammit authors typically help to promote the book by spreading the word through social media, by hosting readings and book signings, by giving interviews and by doing any number of other fun things writers do.
Your story will appear in a printed book and an ebook, and may be released in audio format. We buy exclusive rights (except for screen rights) to your story for 10 years from publication. After that, you can choose to opt out of further royalties and do whatever you want with the story. Email editor@BrandtStreetPress.com if you have any questions regarding submissions.
Up for the challenge?
Submit your story by November 30, 2014, through our Submittable story manager. It only costs 3 bucks.
Now go and write, dammit!
