Who are the publishers?
Anita Kulina and Scott Bradley Smith own and operate Brandt Street Press, an independent publisher in the Squirrel Hill nighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Scott is an accomplished editor and literary author. You can learn more about him here. Anita is also a writer, but with more down-home roots. She’s currently working on a series of mysteries set in a fictional Pittsburgh neighborhood. Brandt Street Press has also published Millhunks and Renegades, which tells the story of the history of Western Pennsylvania through the eyes of immigrants in the Pittsburgh neighborhoods of Greenfield and Squirrel Hill.
How were the stories in the Dammit Books chosen?
The publishers commissioned some of the stories personally. Others were chosen from an open call for submissions. Some are from seasoned authors. Others are from authors publishing for the very first time. Yet all were chosen for the same reason—because they had a story to tell, a story that we wanted to hear.
